Expand your desktop into 3D.
If you've ever seen some of the cool effects which run on Linux desktops like Gnome or even some of the transition effects that Mac OS X is capable of, you might be interested to check out DeskSpace which is a desktop replacement for Windows.
Stemming from an originally freeware program called YODM 3D, DeskSpace can turn your desktop into a 3D cube which transitions between multiple workspaces. To use it, hit the CTRL Shift keys and your transition takes place.
Though unlike other virtual desktop programs, this one sees a lot of its effort put into the 3D effects and doesn't really offer the added features that some other programs offer like BumpTop did before Google purchased it and stopped its development.
In the end, cool 3D effects make your desktop look cool, but not much else.
